Climate in Oman: a country to experience year-round

In general, Oman is an all-season destination, taking into account the different climatic characteristics. The desert offers the best from September to May, whilesummer can also be a good choice if you combine Muscat and the Hajar mountain range, where temperatures remain milder and more pleasant.

Going into more detail, here is how the climate is changing in different areas of the country:

  • Muscat and northern coast: in winter, temperatures range between 20 and 30°C, ideal for exploring the capital and relaxing by the sea; in summer, however, the heat can exceed 40°C.
  • Inland and desert areas (Sharqiyah Sands and Rub al Khali): dry and very hot climate, with large temperature ranges between day and night.
  • Hajar Mountains: cooler and windier climate, especially in the winter months, with nights that can drop significantly.
  • Salalah and Dhofar: the only region affected by the phenomenon of khareef, the summer monsoon (June-September) that brings light rains, fog, and lush and amazing vegetation.

When to go to Oman: the best time to visit

Each season in Oman has its own uniqueness and can provide different experiences. The most popular time for travelers is from November to March, when the weather is dry and pleasant, perfect for desert hikes, mountain treks, and days at the beach.

In summer, however, the south of the country experiences the magic of the khareef: Salalah transforms into a green, almost tropical destination, while Muscat and Hajar remain viable alternatives for those seeking milder temperatures than the desert areas.

The midseasons, April and October, are also a good choice: less crowding, intermediate temperatures, and the opportunity to explore more quietly.

In summary, Oman is truly a country that can be experienced year-round, choosing the itinerary according to the time of year and the type of experience you want.
