In our universe, sustainability embraces every nuance.
The key lies in the philosophy of the traveler: choose your impact, live the experience.

Sustainability is not just what we do, but a value rooted in our essence and the way we perceive the world.

It is crucial to remember that sustainability is not limited to the environmental sphere, but also embraces social and economic aspects-known as ESG criteria.

While the environment remains important, we are also committed to improving the quality of life in the communities in which we operate and adopting responsible governance.

On theenvironmental front(E), we pursue sustainable practices to reduce CO2 emissions and promote low-carbon solutions, from transportation to and from the destination, to facilities, to proposed experiences.

On the social aspect (S), we focus on increasing the well-being of employees, suppliers and local communities through diversity, equality and inclusion, as well as investing in social programs.

Finally, in governance (G), we ensure transparency, ethics and accountability, with impeccable supervision and accurate financial reporting, promoting ethical and responsible business decisions.

In summary, our vision of sustainability is focused on integrating these 3 aspects to promote responsible, ethical and lasting growth.

For us, sustainability is a long-term commitment, a constantly evolving path that requires continuous monitoring and improvement.

Our Travelife certification and active collaboration with leading global and European organizations in the field of sustainable tourism mark not an end point, but rather a starting point.

We are proud to be among the pioneering companies committed to climate and hope that our efforts will inspire other companies to follow the same path.

In 2021, we signed the "Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism," in which we committed to halving emissions from the tourism sector over the next ten years and achieving zero net emissions by 2050.

Travelife

Travel World Escape has achieved Travelife Certified status, recognition for its long-term commitments and demonstrated leadership in sustainability and corporate social responsibility in the tourism industry.

Travelife is the leading international sustainability certification for the travel industry. The Travelife standard covers issues of Corporate Social Responsibility, including working conditions, human rights, environment, biodiversity and fair business practices; and is formally recognized as fully compliant with the UN-supported Global Criteria for Sustainable Tourism. The management requirements are compatible with EMAS and ISO 14001.

With this certification comes recognition that we meet more than 200 criteria, relating to office management, product range, international business partners and customer information.

In addition, TWE took part in the EU-funded SUSTOUR project from 2020 to 2023, which aims to promote sustainability among European tour operators. The project has supported more than 600 small and medium-sized enterprises in 35 European countries to improve their sustainability performance through training, coaching and peer learning opportunities.

UNWTO

After careful evaluation and a long process from June 2022 we have been accepted as an affiliate member of this important global organization, which has as one of its goals the promotion and development of sustainable tourism and ecotourism. This stage is an honor for us, but at the same time we have been entrusted with an important task to carry forward: to grow more sustainable tourism that will help create a better future for all.

The Code

The Code is a multi-stakeholder initiative with a mission to provide awareness, tools and support to the travel and tourism industry to prevent child sexual exploitation. The Code is a voluntary set of criteria to which members commit, to keep children safe.

Future of Tourism

A coalition of six organizations, united in a call for change for more sustainable and responsible tourism. Travel World Escape has subscribed to the 13 guiding principles that inspire actions to grow sustainability in tourism. Through the organization’s community, we can interact with local practitioners, agencies and organizations that adhere to the same principles and discuss related issues.

GLASGOW DECLARATION

Declaration born out of the COP26 conference to limit the effects of climate change from tourism and halve CO2 emissions by 2030. As signatories, we constantly renew our commitment to help achieve zero net emissions in tourism by 2030.

GSTC

We are a member of GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), a nonprofit organization that guides standards for sustainable tourism development globally. As members, we remain constantly informed about news and new initiatives promoted by the institution. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council manages the GSTC criteria, global standards for sustainable travel and tourism; as well as providing international accreditation to sustainable tourism certification bodies.

Regenerative tourism

[RI·GE·NE·RA·ZIO·NE]

RE-GEN-ER-A-TION

Derived from the Latin word “regenerate,” it means to restore, renew or revive something.

The concept of regenerative tourism stems from the realization that sustainable tourism alone is not enough, and that the entire industry must make an evolutionary leap to secure its future.

The basic approach is to leave the tourist destination in a better state than when it was visited, rather than just a temporary transition. During these journeys, visitors are not mere spectators; rather, they are called upon to actively participate in the restoration of ecosystems and not just carefully walk through them.

The basic pillars of regenerative tourism include environmental conservation, community participation, promotion of local products and initiatives, environmental and cultural education, and careful management of tourist flow.

Promoting positive impact through regeneration.

Our primary goal is to combine the principles of sustainability and regeneration to generate a positive and lasting impact on the planet. We believe that an ongoing commitment to responsible travel is a fundamental pillar of our philosophy.

Sustainable tourism

[so·ste·ni·bi·li·tà]

SUS-TAIN-A-BIL-I-TY

It is derived from the Latin verb “sustÄneo, sustinÄ“re,” which means to endure, to last but also to support, sustain, bear, protect and nurture.

Tourism that meets the needs of travelers and host regions while protecting and enhancing opportunities for the future (UNWTO)

In a world increasingly focused on recognizing the value of environmental sustainability, tourism is also about to embark on a change. A pathway to real travel awareness, a choice that aims to offset all the negative impacts associated with it.

The CO2 emissions of travel

No trip is truly “carbon neutral,” just as it is not possible to completely avoid CO2 emissions in everyday life. Therefore, we focus on educating our travelers to be aware of their own environmental impact and avoid greenwashing.

Our routes are carefully planned to minimize the CO2 emissions generated during all phases of construction:

Transportation

We pay attention to aircraft selection, looking for more sustainable options when possible, and we favor the use of low-impact transportation for destination travel, thereby reducing environmental impact.

Experience

We offer authentic experiences that connect travelers with nature and local communities, helping to preserve both the environment and the local economy.

Facilities

We favor accommodations in hotels that are certified and/or committed to promoting sustainability. This includes employing local employees, sourcing zero-mile food, and other eco-friendly practices.

Is there such a thing as zero-impact travel?

There is no such thing as zero-impact travel. Therefore, we are committed to providing clear communication about the impact of each trip so that the traveler has the opportunity to actively contribute and offset these emissions.

What does it mean to compensate?

Offsetting carbon emissions means balancing the carbon pollution generated-that is, one's carbon footprint-by preventing the same amount of pollution from occurring elsewhere.

Offsetting the emission of a ton of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere prevents the introduction of a ton of CO2 to another part of the planet (for example, through investments in renewable energy) or removes a ton of CO2 already present (through projects such as tree planting, as trees absorb CO2 from the air as they grow).

How does compensation work?

Through our verified partner, South Pole, we can ensure that all carbon credits associated with our trips come from certified projects, ensuring that your contribution has the greatest positive impact.

Together with us, each traveler is free to choose the sustainability project in the world they wish to support.
Here are some examples:

Vietnam
Bac Lieu Wind Farm

Bac Lieu Wind Farm

Vietnam is facing an electricity shortage due to economic growth in recent years. The Bac Lieu wind farm has helped fill this gap, generating 327,826 MWh of clean energy each year and creating more than 100 permanent jobs in the area. The project also provides support for local social activities and charitable funds, improving services in surrounding areas and promoting regional biodiversity. The success of the project paves the way for further clean energy projects in the region.

Stoves for Maasai communities

Stoves for Maasai communities

The project supports the semi-nomadic Maasai people by distributing more than 5,500 efficient stoves to replace the open fires used for cooking, which are time-consuming and cause deforestation and smoke emissions harmful to respiratory health. The new stoves reduce the amount of firewood needed and smoke emissions by 66 percent, improving the overall health of the community and reducing CO2 emissions by about 14,500 tons per year. The project also improves the quality of life for women and children, who can now engage in other activities such as school or work, and alleviates the demand for firewood from the Mau forest.

Together to achieve the
Sustainable Development Goals

It is important to pay attention!
Even when we talk about "carbon neutral," we can run into greenwashing. To achieve carbon neutral status, travel must adhere to strict rules. Offsetting CO2 emissions is only the last step in this process, which begins with the trip planning itself.
