Armenia: a Journey through Tradition, Authenticity and Sustainability with Travel World Escape

We have just returned from an unforgettable trip to Armenia, where we had the privilege of accompanying a special group of travel agents to discover this hidden gem of the Caucasus. Together we explored a country that masterfully interweaves its thousand-year history with the authenticity of human encounters and the warm hospitality of a land capable of welcoming you as if you had always belonged to it.

Armenia welcomed us with the warmth of its people and with a beauty we had not expected: scenic vistas, millennia-old traditions, and an authentic connection to the local culture that was ingrained in every moment.

Meeting the master stonemason was like taking a journey back in time. His hands, marked by years of work, carried with them the wisdom of a thousand-year-old tradition. Every carving and geometric pattern in the khachkars (typical Armenian cross) was a tribute to the ancestors, a bridge between the past and the present. We understood how deeply rooted this art was in Armenian culture, and how important it is to preserve it.

Authenticity and sensory experience were the stars of our trip to Armenia. In the workshops of artisans, where we discovered ancient techniques, every moment was an immersion in Armenian culture. Sharing meals and traditions with local families and savoring fine wines and aromatic teas made our trip a memorable experience. There was no shortage of unforgettable moments, such as evening strolls in vibrant Yerevan, illuminated by night lights, or explorations through the narrow streets of Gyumri, a plunge into the city’s beating heart. The excitement of feeling part of the local community, shopping at the market and interacting with vendors, was intertwined with the spirituality experienced in the most iconic monasteries and admiration for the country’s natural beauty.

An unforgettable experience was participating in the preparation of Armenian bread, an ancient tradition recognized by UNESCO, while also learning the symbolic value this bread represents to Armenian culture. Dinners in restaurants run by local chefs, who promote zero-mile products and create job opportunities for young people, rounded out an authentic culinary experience. Finally, stays in sustainable facilities housing artwork by local and international artists provided an opportunity to immerse oneself in Armenia’s vibrant art scene.

If there is one thing that struck us, it is how possible it is to experience authentic and conscious tourism while supporting local communities. This is not just a destination to propose, but a way of traveling that can really make a difference. By placing sustainability and respect for local communities at the center, TWE aims to meet the demands of an increasingly demanding and conscious clientele. Travel agents participating in the fam trip were able to experience firsthand the possibility of traveling responsibly and contributing to the development of host communities.

The fam trip to Armenia has strengthened our collaboration with travel agents, allowing us to create a network of passionate and knowledgeable professionals. Travel agents are now even better equipped to better advise their clients and promote destinations like Armenia, which are a true discovery.
